Our first and favourite solar bus shelter!

Jan 24, 2024

The first of anything, first tooth, first date, first day at school, will always have a special place in a persons memory. For us, our first solar bus shelter does! Installed in Clontarf in Dublin in 2011, it is in a picturesque and well-known setting. With a little iconic wooden bridge in the background which brings visitors to Bull Island and the twin towers of Poolbeg electricity generating station visible behind it. This video shows a timelapse of the site over a 24 hours period.

Our first and faviourite solar bus shelter with 24/7 illumination

This site was our first solar bus shelter and incorporated the best in solar panel and battery technologies at the time. Our bespoke LED lighting and solar control unit offered bright, vibrant lighting of both the advertising display and the courtesy lights.

The shelter, with our lighting in place and working perfectly, was in place until 2018, when the shelter itself was removed to enable the building of the Clontarf to Howth cycleway. But this was not the end of the solar system as we moved it to another bus shelter that had no electricity connection. It continues to work very well at latitude 53 degree for more than 10 years now.
